July Meeting Minutes

SOUTH WINDS CORVETTE CLUB MEETING MINUTES

Date: July, 7, 2009

1. The meeting was proceeded by an entertaining slide show presented by Jerry highlighting May - June SWCC events. MEETING CALLED TO ORDER by President Jerry McK. at 7:00 PM. The meeting was dismissed at 8:00 PM.
- Approximately 35 members including guests attended tonight's meeting, which was held at Players Sports Bar.

2. NEW MEMBERS & GUESTS WELCOMED by President Jerry McK. - Wayne who owns a dark blue 1979 Corvette. He is from Moundridge.

3. OFFICER TIME:
- Minutes are on the club web site and NCCC Governor sends email updates as needed.
- Send Jerry McK. or Dale Gr. an update if your contact or car information change.
- A big thank you to Mike Wal. who recorded this months minutes as Dale was out of town.

3a) CORVETTE TRIVIA QUESTION - given by Mike Ro. The question was: What year was a CB radio an option for a Corvette. The answer is 1985. Mike stated that he gets many of his questions from the Idaho Corvette Page: http://corvetteidaho.com/index.htm
3b) TREASURER REPORT given by Janet De. announced this month balance as $ 3555.17
3c) RECOGNIZE MONTHLY MEMBERSHIP BIRTHDAYS & "WHO AM I" QUESTION - given by Jerry Mck.
3d) CORVETTE SHOW AND TELL - Auto part presented by Dallas Keller. The part was an anti-fouling plug for a spark plug.
3e) MEETING ATTIRE/THEME announced by Jerry McK.
This Month: Patriotic and Stingrays and Sharks. Next Month: No theme, but Corvettes are always in style.
3f) OTHER ANNOUNCEMENTS / DISCUSSION
-> Doug Fehan of the GM Performance Division and director of the racing program, wrote a letter to the club thanking them for supporting the Corvette Racing team, he stated that Corvette is going to be around in the future.
-> SWCC 25th Anniversary hats will be available at the Anniversary Celebration at Cowtown. The hats will be $5. The celebration is BYOB.
-> Ron and Kathy Westphal have arranged for photos to be taken of our cars at Cowtown. The photo session will be on Monday, July 13 at 6:30 PM. The photos will be taken in front of the train station. It is OK to bring multiple cars.
-> Bill Puls displayed a very cool neon clock displaying the SWCC 25th Anniversary logo. Doug Standifer of CARS Magazine created the clocks and has them available for $125. Customized clocks can be obtained for $140. The clocks are available with different colors of neon. Notify Bill if you are interested in purchasing a clock.
-> Saturday, July 11 members of the club will meet at 4 PM to tour the Automobilia Car Show. Following the car show members will meet at the Looney Bin to see comedian Michael Mack and the Faces of Rock.
-> We are losing judges for our car show due to the economy. Jeremiah Snethen is moving to Goodland. Dave Scott also lost his job, but will still be available to judge.

4. CRUIZIN' TIME:
4a) RECAP OF PRIOR CRUISES AND EVENTS
Many thanks to David and Janet D. for hosting the June drive & dine.
25 members and a small number of Corvettes braved the bad weather to attend the Hutchinson Salt Mines tour and Carriage Crossing in Yoder for dinner.

4b) OUTLINE OF UPCOMING FUNCTIONS -
-> Celebration at Lakepoint located across from KAKE-TV. They are sponsoring a Corvette car show this year for residents. SWCC has promised 35 cars. Lakepoint will provide club members with food, entertainment, t-shirts. Residents will select their favorites for trophies.
-> Attention - Marcia R. was tardy!
-> 25th Anniversary Celebration Schedule -
- -> Sat. July 18 - 10:00-10:30 AM - Meet at the Paramount Antique Mall on West Kellogg for a Poker Run and Scavenger hunt. The cruise will be approximately 2 hours in length. Those participating in the scavenger hunt will have items to collect as well as questions to answer. The scavenger hunt clues will be mailed out on Friday evening at 9 PM.
- -> Dinner is $15 each and will be held in Cowtown. 6-7 PM is a social hour. Dinner is from 7-8. Beef and Chicken will be served. 8-11 is a dance with DJ music by Mobil Music Unlimited. There will be videos, entertainment, and dash plaques. Dress is casual. 25th Anniversary hats will be on sale for $5.

5. DRIVIN' AND BRAGGIN' TIME - Take the wheel for your chance to brag a little.
-> Several members won awards at various events in the last month. Ponca City winners included Casey, Ron and Kathy B., Darryl R., Jerry M., Cliff, Kurt and Karen G., Bill P. The club won the participation award for the 3rd year in a row. The award was $100.
-> Lake Afton - There were 25-35 cars depending on the time of day. This was a combination of Air Cap and SWCC cars. There were approximately 2000 cars at the show.
-> Jerry M. won first place in the 75-95 class in Salina with his '89. There were a total of 168 cars at the show.
-> Terry and Darryl attended the Newton Car Show on the 4th of July. Both won awards. There were approximately 125 cars at the show.
-> Mike Walker attended the Father's Day car show at the zoo. It was a great show with lots of cars.
-> Moundridge Car Show - Jerry, Ron, and Darryl won awards.
-> The 4th of July party at Gary Cochran's was a blast.

6. OTHER BUSINESS / DISCUSSION:
None.

7. DRAW FOR DOOR PRIZE - Didn't have one.
